Overview

The vision of USAID’s Policy Framework includes the Agency’s commitment to embrace new partnerships and to support partner governments in planning, financing, and implementing solutions to local development challenges. To this end, USAID seeks to strengthen our relationships with partner governments and transition our engagement from traditional donor-recipient roles to a role with increased emphasis on investing foreign assistance in a manner that recognizes the primary role of the government in a country’s development and decreases—or eliminates—the need for foreign assistance in the future. Development programming is more sustainable when we coordinate with partner governments in designing projects and activities in ways that advance locally-led development, increase the capacity of national and local systems and institutions, foster transparency and accountability, and bring us closer to confront the greatest challenges of our time.
