Power Africa Awards Grants to Increase Access to Solar-Powered Productive-Use Technologies in East Africa
Power Africa announced an investment of $250,000 in two renewable energy companies to increase access to productive use of energy technologies in East Africa. Simusolar and SureChill will distribute solar-powered irrigation and refrigeration solutions to underserved regions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to boost productive use of energy.

Nearly two out of three people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity. In 2013, President Obama launched Power Africa, a U.S. government-led partnership created to address this challenge.
Power Africa now convenes the collective resources of more than 200 public and private sector partners to stimulate investment in sub-Saharan Africa’s energy sector.
Power Africa’s goal is to advance inclusive, low-carbon economic growth that improves lives and powers health, education, and prosperity by adding 60 million new electricity connections and 30,000 megawatts of new, cleaner power in more than 40 countries.
