World Population Day 2024, themed "Pathways to Progress," highlights the transformative power of USAID’s family planning programs in Benin. This year, we heard directly from our program participants about how USAID’s support has significantly improved their lives, enhancing reproductive health services and promoting gender equity through the Momentum Private Healthcare Delivery (MPHD) program.
Mrs DEGAN, Midwife, Sacré-Cœur Clinic, Porto-Novo
"Thanks to the USAID-funded training on Client-Centered Care (C4C) organized by MPHD, our approach to clients has changed. Women now feel more comfortable and confident, and they actively participate in choosing the contraceptive method that suits them best."
Mrs DEGBO, Manager, Amour & Vie Youth Center, Natitingou
"I'd like to share the story of one of our clients who regularly visits our center for contraceptive services. Following the Client-Centered Care (C4C) training by the MPHD project, we have enhanced the confidentiality of our services, which has made her feel safe and assured. As a result, she consistently uses contraceptive methods, significantly reducing the risk of early pregnancies."
Mrs BARASSOUNON, Midwife, PH Clinic, Natitingou
"Women often fear being seen at family planning health centers during the day. They prefer coming in the evening or during advanced strategy campaigns, pretending to be running errands. The support of the MPHD project has been crucial in making these services accessible and acceptable in our community."
Mrs GNANHOUE, Health Inspector and Midwife, Koueri Clinic, Boukoumbé
"The USAID-funded MPHD project has greatly benefited us. The C4C approach has saved us and our clients many times. Women now choose contraceptive methods voluntarily, often accompanied by their husbands. The trust and satisfaction in our services have improved access to contraceptive methods."
These success stories illustrate how USAID’s support in comprehensive sexuality education, innovative contraceptive methods, and person-centered care are creating healthier futures for all. By supporting educational programs, training healthcare providers, and advocating for supportive policies, USAID ensures that quality reproductive health services are accessible and affordable.
About MPHD: The MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery (MPHD) activity aims to improve health outcomes in Benin by enhancing the quality and accessibility of private healthcare services. Population Services International (PSI) and its local affiliate, the Association Béninoise pour le Marketing Social et la Communication pour la Santé (ABMS), play a pivotal role in this initiative. They focus on developing health markets and systems through social behavior change and social marketing. USAID supports this effort by providing technical assistance, capacity building, and facilitating access to quality health services, particularly for vulnerable populations, thereby ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of ABMS/PSI’s initiatives.
