Phnom Penh – On April 7, 2023. The United States government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), provides scholarship opportunities under the Digital Workforce Development project (DWD) for students with Digital and Internet Technology related majors at universities across the country.
In her first engagement in Cambodia, USAID/Cambodia’s new Mission Director, Kerry Pelzman, awarded scholarships to 19 recipients at the National University of Management (NUM) in Phnom Penh in a formal ceremony today. This is the second of three scholarship award ceremonies, which will provide a total of 75 scholarships to Cambodian students, 64% (48) of which are awarded to women.
“This project highlights the United States' commitment to ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to Cambodians with access to a university education, prioritizing female students and individuals with disabilities. The 19 scholarships being granted today in digital-related majors will provide these students with life-changing opportunities,” stated Ms. Kerry Pelzman, USAID/Cambodia Mission Director.
USAID will support scholarship recipients throughout their studies using the DWD ecosystem of private sector companies and university networks, as well as activities such as soft-skill training, networking events, internships, and jobs.
DWD is a five-year project implemented in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley to improve educational outcomes for Cambodia’s youth and professionals in an increasingly digital global economy. In alignment with the workforce needs of private sector partners, one of the project goals is to increase access to quality digital related certifications, associate, and bachelor’s degree programs by creating scholarships for diverse and talented students.
