Yaoundé, Cameroon – On March 29, 2021, the U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), awarded a grant of 780,470,000 CFA (USD $1.4 million) to Reseau Camerounais des Associations des Personnes vivant avec le VIH/SIDA (ReCAP+), a Cameroonian association for people living with HIV/AIDS. The grant will support and work to improve community participatory monitoring systems for HIV services over the next three years.
This project will achieve the following specific objectives:
- Objective 1: Strengthen the existing system to monitor the elimination of HIV-related user fees at health facilities and share findings with all stakeholders.
- Objective 2: Foster health facility compliance in quality and quantity with the new government policy focused on eliminating user fees at HIV service delivery points.
- Objective 3: Empower people living with HIV and communities to leverage evidence gathered to seek improved access to and quality of services.
The ReCAP+ grant complements the U.S. Government’s larger scale health assistance to Cameroon through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). In 2021, PEPFAR continues to support comprehensive activities that reduce HIV infection and transmission; facilitates case finding and enrollment into treatment; ensures that all HIV-positive beneficiaries are retained in care; and, improves the health and well-being of children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The U.S. government remains committed to supporting Cameroon to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
