Overview

The Security Awareness and Training Project provides security reports and security awareness and preparedness training to USAID/Colombia staff and implementing partner personnel.  USAID activities are managed by implementing partners, and these partners require appropriate security information, security awareness, and preparedness support to complete USAID’s work in conflict-affected communities. The Security Awareness and Training Project is implemented by Zehirut Ltda., and it runs from May 2021 to April 2023.

Components

GENERATING SECURITY REPORTS

The Security Awareness and Training Project produces daily security updates and quarterly Regional Security Reports with security information related to the post-Peace Accord and post COVID-19 security environment. The project also produces special security reports and risk analysis at the request of USAID/Colombia.

PROVIDING VIRTUAL TRAINING

The Security Awareness and Training Project organizes virtual training sessions about safety, security, awareness, and preparedness.  These virtual training sessions can accommodate up to 100 participants, and they include an online platform where participants can access class materials and other resources.

PROVIDING IN-PERSON TRAINING

The Security Awareness and Training Project facilitates workshops, hands-on exercises, and problem-based learning that simulate real-world security scenarios. These in-person events provide participants with the opportunity to apply what they learned during virtual training sessions using a hostile environments awareness training (HEAT) approach. In-person training is designed to accommodate up to 30 participants per session, and they take place over a five-day period.

EXPECTED results

  • Ensure that USAID/Colombia and its implementing partners are better informed about evolving security conditions in post-Peace Accord and post COVID-19 Colombia; and
  • Mitigate security risks to USAID/Colombia and implementing partners’ staff by increasing their awareness of regional and national security conditions, and by helping them adjust activities as need.
