16 days of activism campaign in full swing in regions: USAID in partnership with National Union of Djiboutian Women supports associations to fight against violence against women! For 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence USAID, in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Family and the National Union of Djiboutian Women launched two community engagement activities. Following capacity building and financial support, Civil Society Organizations based throughout Djibouti ran an online campaign on gender-based violence to raise awareness among the local population.
The training focused on the harmful consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM) on women's physical and mental health. Training workshops and discussion sessions equipped civil society organizations to raise awareness on gender-based violence. The civil society organization then organized their own workshops in Ali Sabieh, Dikhil, Tadjourah and Obock to address gender-based violence issues in their community. Hamda Saïd, one of these discussion workshops' participants, stressed the importance of these sessions, particularly in understanding the origins of violence, prevention mechanisms, and how to create safer communities.
