Djibouti, June 20, 2024 - The Ministry of Women and Family, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), organized a national conference on the role of Djiboutian women on promoting and consolidating peace. This conference is part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Women, Peace, and Security adopted by Djibouti in 2017, making Djibouti the first IGAD member state to translate the regional action plan to the national level.

The National Conference, held in Ayla Hotel, brought together representatives from various sectors, including government officials, civil society leaders, and international partners. It featured four panels: “National Action Plan: Achievements and Challenges,” which highlighted the progress made and challenges ahead; “Women’s Leadership, From Yesterday to Today,” featuring personal experiences of Djiboutian women leaders; “Innovative Approaches to Peacebuilding,” which explored innovative initiatives by women to promote peace; and finally“Youth Contributions to Sustaining Peace,” which engaged young people in exploring their role in sustaining peace and promoting a culture of peace.

In the coming days, the Ministry of Women and Family will conduct awareness and training workshops in the interior regions, aimed at strengthening the capacities of local women leaders. These workshops will address several key themes, including awareness of early warning mechanisms, community engagement, and peacebuilding practices, among others.
