USAID/HONDURAS ACTIVITIES TO EXPAND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

• Creando mi Futuro Aquí: The objective of this program is to increase employment and income generating opportunities for vulnerable youth, including those from high out-migration areas, returned migrants, and youth at risk of violence. The program will connect youth with diverse services to help them become productively engaged in Honduran economy and society. 
   
• Progresa con Educación: The purpose of this program is to increase access to safe learning environments, and to provide relevant and quality basic education for children and youth, particularly those in higher grades (grades six to nine and secondary grades) in high out-migration areas. 
   
• Acuerdo con el Servicio Forestal de Estados Unidos: USAID maintains a long-term partnership with the U.S. Forest Service to support ongoing capacity-building and institutional strengthening activities with the Government of Honduras  in the forestry sector. This agreement implements an innovative Youth Conservation Corps and a wildfire management and prevention program. 
   
• Transformando Sistemas de Mercado: Given that poor economic opportunities, lack of jobs, and low incomes are leading factors that contribute to irregular migration, USAID fosters competitive, resilient, and inclusive market systems that increase economic opportunities for poor and marginalized Hondurans. TMS facilitates partnerships to address constraints to private sector investment, economic growth, and job creation. 
   
• Alianza para el Café: This Global Development Alliance mobilizes private investment in the Honduran coffee sector expanding economic opportunities for agricultural households to address the root causes of irregular migration. It provides expertise in sustainable post-harvest management and processing practices that enable client households to improve their yields and product quality. It also offers market intelligence, product development, and international marketing expertise to identify new markets for Honduran smallholder coffee farmers.
   
• Agronegocios Sostenibles: This program strengthens the Honduran agricultural market to provide greater economic opportunity and sustainably reduce poverty. It partners with private sector actors to increase sales in targeted value chains and create jobs by improving market linkages, expanding, and improving the provision of services to farmers by the private sector and local government actors, and improving the performance of service providers.
   
• Café y Comunidad: This Global Development Alliance will expand access to capital and business development services for agri-small and medium enterprises, as a means to increase their revenues and sustainably connect farmers with global markets.  
   
• Avanzando la Nutrición: This program brings together global nutrition experience to design, implement, and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition and improve the quality of diets in Honduras. 
   
• Water Management Program: This program enhances water resource planning and management in western Honduras by strengthening the capacity and increasing the number of local and national stakeholders using advanced water planning tools.
   
• Adaptación Climática: The objective of this program is to strengthen the capacity of Honduran communities and systems to withstand and respond to climate variability and change, thereby helping address underlying factors that contribute to irregular migration. 
   
• Conservando Ecosistemas Costeros:  This program focuses on coastal resource management in order to reduce threats to biodiversity, increase socio-economic opportunities for youth and other vulnerable populations, and promote climate change mitigation and adaptation. 
   
• Juntos por la Gobernanza Ambiental: The objective of this program is to improve environmental governance in Honduras by targeting the criminal networks that underpin illegal logging, timber and wildlife trafficking, and wildfires. 
   
• SOS Yojoa : This program is focused on the environmental recovery of Lake Yojoa and its watershed through environmental education, entrepreneurship, and proper management of solid waste. 
   
• Reciclar para Crecer: This program’s goal is to support locally led green economic reactivation which simultaneously reduces solid waste in the environment and decreases risk factors associated with violence in areas heavily affected by COVID-19 and migration. Reciclar para Crecer will also empower local actors to create self-reliant, sustainable Solid Waste Management systems which create economic opportunities while strengthening environmental governance and basic service provision at the municipal level.
