The Science for Development Fellowship strengthens USAID’s ability to integrate relevant science and research expertise across Agency programming and enhance the professional capabilities of scientists and engineers to promote evidence-based policies and practices at USAID. Science for Development Fellows work on critical international development issues in areas such as global health, food security, humanitarian assistance, economic growth, water and sanitation, climate change, environment, and energy.
USAID’s Science for Development Fellowship provides an opportunity for USAID to leverage the expertise of scientists and engineers to support international development priorities around the world. Science for Development Fellows will serve for two-year terms in Washington, D.C., with an optional third year.
The program directly links to the U.S. higher education community, including the establishment of the Science for Development Network for higher education institutions (HEIs) and USAID’s Science for Development Institute, an annual training program in Washington, D.C. for candidates pursuing scientific doctorates or Masters in Engineering degrees.
USAID will host the inaugural Science for Development Fellows cohort beginning in the fall of 2024. PhD-level scientists and Masters of Engineering from all scientific disciplines, including life sciences, social sciences, mathematics, engineering, public health, and medicine, are encouraged to apply.
