Kingston - On Wednesday, January 13, USAID launched a three year US$4 million Jamaica Energy Resilience Alliance. This Alliance, which involves a number of prominent local and international firms, will invest up to US$50 million to boost Jamaica’s renewable energy landscape, with economic and environmental impacts benefitting Jamaica’s tourism sectors, and other essential industries.
Alliance activities aim to reduce key barriers to renewable energy and battery storage adoption and enhance continuity amongst Jamaican companies. Jamaican businesses will benefit from opportunities for financing from Alliance partners. The Alliance will also tackle workforce development for solar installation, offering scholarships to diversify the workforce.
At the launch event USAID Jamaica Country Representative, Jason Fraser, led a subset of Alliance partners in a panel discussion about Alliance activities and value proposition. The Alliance is led by the Cadmus Group and members include: The Jamaican Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA); LASCO Distributors Limited; The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus; Wigton Wind Farms Limited, WRB Energy and Rocky Mountain Institute, Xergy Energy, and Green Solutions International.
