USAID provides technical assistance to the four regional water authorities that serve the entire Lebanese population to improve their operations and the quality and reliability of service delivery. USAID also provides construction and capacity building services to the four water authorities and local municipalities. As a result, the water authorities have improved operations, financial management, planning and customer outreach.
Our impacts in this sector include:
- More than 100,000 people in the Bekaa Valley now have access to treated water in their homes thanks to newly installed chlorination systems in 14 pump stations, an upgraded central laboratory, and water-establishment staff trained to properly monitor the water quality and pumping station operations.
- More than 600,000 people now benefit from an uninterrupted supply of treated water, many of them in poor, underserved communities.
