In addition to multiple regional- and country-level research reports that help document local priorities and needs, USAID has supported a variety of global research reports related to LGBTQI+ inclusion. Examples include the following:
- The LGBT Global Acceptance Index analyzes survey data from 174 countries to measure the social acceptance of LGBTQI people over time.
- The Global Barometer of Gay Rights and the Global Barometer of Transgender Rights measure and rank state and societal persecution and protection of LGBT people in 203 countries across time.
- A variety of publications that have shown the linkage between discrimination against LGBTQI+ people and economic development, including “The Relationship Between LGBT Inclusion and Economic Development: Emerging Economies”; “The Economic Cost of LGBT Stigma and Discrimination in South Africa”; and, “Stress, Health, and Well-Being of LGBT People in Colombia: Results from a National Survey”.
USAID is committed to closing the development gaps that trap LGBTQI+ people in poverty and meaningfully integrating considerations of LGBTQI+ people into all development and humanitarian programming.
