With USAID Support, Stella "Meats" The Demand

Before April 2024, Goliati Trading Center in Thyolo had only one regularly operating butchery. It was not able to adequately serve the community. Stella Issa, a young and visionary resident, wanted to provide more options but lacked resources.

Through the USAID-supported Business Acceleration for Youth (BA4Y) project, she received training in essential business management skills and a MK4,250,000 (almost US$2,500) grant. This enabled her to open Laelan Butchery, offering high quality meat products to her community.

The BA4Y project has supported over 450 young entrepreneurs by enhancing their entrepreneurship and business management skills through business incubation training in nine selected districts in Malawi – Balaka, Chikwawa, Chiradzulu, Machinga, Mangochi, Mulanje, Nsanje,Thyolo and Zomba.

Stella’s story exemplifies one of USAID Malawi’s goals of helping the youth of Malawi to lead healthy, informed, and productive lives, by among other ways, supporting and economically empowering them.
