Food Security

USAID through its Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs (BHA) together with international partner organizations and the private sector support the Namibian government in providing life-saving assistance to malnourished children and other vulnerable populations affected by drought and water scarcity.

Economic Growth and Trade

The USAID Southern Africa Mobilizing Investment Activity promotes inclusive economic growth and self-reliance in the region. It works with local market system actors to identify investment opportunities and mobilize capital for underserved sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, climate, and education. The USAID Africa Trade and Investment Southern Africa Buy-in Activity addresses market incentives and relationships that promote trade competitiveness to increase exports from nine targeted Southern African countries to South Africa; and boosting sustainable use of AGOA opportunities to increase exports to the United States.

Energy

The Empower Southern Africa program supports availability of and access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and clean energy in Southern Africa - covering the following countries South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Comoros, Madagascar, and Namibia. ESA will connect African homes, businesses, and institutions to electricity on-the-grid and beyond-the-grid; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector by supporting cleaner and renewable energy.

Democracy, Human Rights and Governance

USAID programs enhance the regional capacity for judicial independence and improve the understanding of human and environmental rights. They promote the involvement of indigenous peoples in decision-making, defend their rights as well as economic and social resilience. USAID further strengthens the country’s democratic multi-party system and promotes electoral integrity.

Global Health

Through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), we support the Ministry of Health and Social Services in their national response to HIV/AIDS. We also partner with other Namibian ministries, non-governmental organizations, faith-based organizations, and health clinics across Namibia to expand access to quality health services. We help bring services closer to communities and connect orphans and vulnerable children to life-changing social grants and protection services. USAID investments also bolster the capacity of government systems to reduce the reliance on external resources and institutions. Our programs further support the implementation of a modern health information system based on data quality and analytics.
