On September 17, USAID/Syria and the White Helmets introduced a new localization initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots organizations in the region. The program will channel resources and provide technical support to local actors who are essential in delivering timely and effective humanitarian assistance, even as Syria's humanitarian needs escalate amid declining international support. The event emphasized the critical role of local responders and awarded sub-grants to three local organizations, reinforcing USAID's commitment to enhancing local capacity in crisis response.
“By investing in local actors, we are not merely supporting projects or providing resources, we are reinforcing the very foundation of the resilience that already exists within communities in northwest Syria,” said Edward Gonzalez, Supervisory Democracy and Governance Officer.
Sustained investment in local organizations is crucial, as their deep community ties and rapid response capabilities are key to addressing urgent needs and building long-term resilience in the face of ongoing conflict and instability.
