Created in 2010, Consomed is a manufacturing company specialized in developing and producing single-use personal protective equipment and sterile surgical linens for the healthcare sector.

The company is based in Kairouan and collaborates with healthcare practitioners to ensure that its devices and equipment provide the maximum level of protection. Consomed has CE, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 certifications and has been recognized by the Ministry of Health for its adherence to Tunisian Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Consomed took immediate precautionary measures to protect its 137 staff members and began operating three shifts per day to meet significant demand for protective overalls, blouses, masks, overshoes, and disposable caps.

USAID’s Tunisia Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Success (JOBS) program provided a grant to Consomed to finance the acquisition of raw materials and semi-finished products necessary for the continued manufacturing of protective equipment and kits, to ensure the safety of health workers. The company has committed to investing in an additional production line to increase its production capacity in the coming weeks. USAID's support was critical for the company to meet the rising demand for these products as they serve to protect the nation’s healthcare workers who are on the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19.
