Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Safe Migration in Central Asia, and Future Growth Initiative programs, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan conducted a webinar on increasing the export potential of Turkmen enterprises and the role of corporate social responsibility and labor rights in attracting international partners. The webinar was for representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, other government agencies, and private sector companies interested in strengthening the country’s capacity to meet international labor standards.
U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Matthew S. Klimow and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Protection, the Ministry of Textile, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, the Office of Ombudsman and Turkmen Standartlari attended the virtual event.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Klimow noted, “Turkmenistan’s increased desire to expand exports requires greater awareness of international buyers’ demand on product quality and certification among lawmakers, trade representatives, and private sector actors.”
During the webinar, international speakers presented strategies to accelerate and expand exports of Turkmen products through internationally recognized due diligence standards.
