USAID Administrator Leads U.S. Government Delegation to Inauguration of Colombian President August 6-8, 2022
On August 6-8, 2022, Administrator Samantha Power traveled to Bogotá, Colombia, as the head of the U.S. delegation that attended the inauguration of His Excellency Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego. Other members of the U.S. delegation included Gregory Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Francisco L. Palmieri, Chargé d’Affaires, United States Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia; Desirée Cormier Smith, Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice, U.S. Department of State; and Juan Gonzalez, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs, National Security Council.
In Bogotá, Administrator Power, along with members of the delegation, participated in a series of engagements including a roundtable with human rights advocates, a discussion with environmental defenders and climate change experts, and bilateral meetings with Colombian government officials.
