Vietnam has prioritized expanding access to captive rooftop solar power (solar power produced by a company for its own consumption). This is a key goal under its Eighth National Power Development Plan (PDP-8), which was approved in May 2023 to provide a roadmap for priority investments in Vietnam’s power system in the 2021-2030 period. To help Vietnam advance this goal, USAID is partnering with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop a detailed study offering insights into local market conditions and international captive rooftop solar power policies, and create appropriate regulations, including those on adapting international best practices to Vietnam’s context.
Through supporting Vietnam to achieve its goals under PDP-8, USAID helps the country advance its clean energy transition, including its net-zero emissions targets by 2050. [Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program II project]
