In Vietnam approximately 388 tigers are kept in privately owned facilities, making it a challenge to have a standardized framework to manage their welfare. USAID supported a conference for national and international experts on tiger conservation to discuss the development of a comprehensive national framework for tiger treatment in Vietnam that is in compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
This framework will be presented to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for consideration as a national management system of captive tigers, ensuring that, across the board, their treatment is humane and adheres to international conventions.
