Tourists purchase up to 30% of illegally sourced wildlife meat in and around Vietnam’s protected areas. USAID organized a workshop on responsible tourism and conservation in Thua Thien Hue to reduce demand and illegal hunting of wildlife. Representatives from the tourism and hospitality sectors joined local conservation leaders to discuss and develop sustainable solutions to decrease illegal hunting, including improving wildlife conservation messaging and inclusive partnerships between communities and park authorities.
The event expanded and reinforced support for the fight against illegal hunting through inter-sectoral collaboration between local authorities, park management, and the tourism industry.
