The private sector plays a vital role in addressing the root causes of development challenges through market-based solutions and investments across all areas of our work, from economic growth, power, agriculture, and global health to humanitarian assistance, women’s empowerment, education, and addressing crisis and conflict.
PSE Across Sectors & Our Partners
Across all sectors, we work in partnership with a range of private sector partners -- multinational corporations, small and local businesses, and investors -- to create a more secure and prosperous future for all.
Agency-wide, USAID is expanding its partnerships with the private sector.
- The Feed the Future initiative, in the Resilience and Food Security Bureau, works closely with the private sector to foster economic growth and establish well-functioning, connected markets, helping to transform economies to reduce poverty, hunger and undernutrition.
- The Center for Innovation and Impact, in the Global Health Bureau, invests seed capital in the most promising ideas and applies a rigorous, market-oriented approach to cut the time it takes to transform discoveries in the lab to impact on the ground.
- When disasters strike, USAID partners with the private sector in delivering humanitarian assistance to harness innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship to improve the efficiency of our humanitarian response around the globe.
- Power Africa, coordinated by USAID, brings together over 170 public and private sector partners to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa.
- The Cooperatives Development Program has strengthened more than 10,000 cooperatives and credit unions in more than 35 countries across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia - representing more than one million households.
- USAID Missions often issue their own calls for partnerships in areas that are aligned to their country strategies.
