Overview
Pesticides are often critical to achieve food security, public health, and other development objectives. But their use poses intrinsic dangers to applicators, households, communities, and the environment. Managing these risks requires that safer use principles be applied across the use cycle, from procurement through application, clean-up, and, where necessary, disposal. This includes the use of pesticides within an integrated pesticide management (IPM) framework. USAID has specific, mandatory pesticide procedures (22 CFR 216.3.b) that impose additional, specific pre-implementation review and approval requirements on any support for pesticides.
The goal of the workshops in this series is to best equip USAID staff and implementing partners to reduce pesticide risks via compliance with mandatory Safer Use Action Plans.
