Uganda's response to the COVID-19-induced drop in TB cases was swift and effective, implementing the CAST-TB campaign, which achieved 100 percent case detection coverage. Building on this success, USAID Uganda partnered with the Ministry of Health for CAST-Plus in September 2023. This innovative approach integrated essential services like HIV, malaria, nutrition, WASH, and maternal/child health into the existing CAST-TB model, delivered by Village Health Teams and primary healthcare providers.

In just over a week, the campaign reached 114,378 households, treating 339 individuals withTB (including 8 individuals with drug-resistant TB), 11 leprosy cases, 74 new HIV cases, 7,379 malaria cases, and 523 cases of child undernutrition. CAST-Plus demonstrated the potential of integrating health services, strengthening community-based primary healthcare, and improving coordination across health programs. The Ministry of Health plans to expand this model by incorporating lessons learned and integrating other healthcare services, benefiting from partnerships with organizations like GAVI and leveraging support from various donors.
