OVERVIEW
USAID is partnering with WFP to address the water and climate-related challenges faced by rural and agricultural communities.
GOALS
- Strengthening climate preparedness and risk reduction: The activity builds capacity of local governments and communities to collect and use weather-related and climate data, manage meteorological and agro-meteorological stations, and produce and disseminate weather information products.
- Adopting modern agricultural practices and technologies: Collaborating with the private sector, government, and business associations, the activity encourages farmers to adopt modern agriculture practices to improve productivity during the drought seasons and help them use water resources efficiently.
- Supporting locally led initiatives to address water-related challenges and support marginalized groups: The activity helps communities adopt preventive measures and water conservation techniques, mitigate weather hazards, and develop irrigation solutions using wastewater. This will reduce the risk of displacement and support vulnerable groups, including women.
- Improving access to finance for agribusinesses and smallholder farmers: The activity increases access to innovative financing for adaptation solutions that protect farmers, households, and small businesses from the risk of potential losses due to adverse weather events.
