The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) donated medical equipment to healthcare organizations in Bishkek and Osh to improve the quality of tuberculosis (TB) care. Equipment for viewing x-rays, monitoring treatment and transporting biomaterials worth 1.2 million soms ($13,800) were procured under the Cure Tuberculosis project.
“This equipment will help primary health care workers meet standards of treatment and transporting of biomaterials. Our goal is to make treatment of tuberculosis more effective,” said Aibek Ibraimov, Head of the Bishkek City Health Department.
Family medicine centers No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and the Student Polyclinic of Bishkek received negatoscopes for viewing X-rays and equipment and supplies for quality monitoring of tuberculosis treatment and timely detection of adverse events. Cold bags and containers will help deliver biomaterials to labs fast and safely.
“USAID and the Kyrgyz Republic are long-time partners in the fight against TB. Together we have reduced mortality from TB and significantly improved the quality of diagnosis and treatment. Yet a lot remains to be done, and we will continue our cooperation,” said Nisha Gupta, USAID’s Health and Education Office Director in the Kyrgyz Republic.
This assistance is a part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving the quality of care for people with tuberculosis at the outpatient level. Earlier, USAID donated medical equipment totaling 360,000 soms ($4,100) to primary health clinics No. 1, 2, 9, and the Railway Hospital in Bishkek.
The equipment for the healthcare organization of the southern capital will be delivered by the end of April.
