August 17, 2023 – More than 800 Kyrgyzstani water and agricultural professionals will receive training at a newly renovated training center in Frunze village, Sokuluk district, over the next three years. U.S. support, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), included providing new furniture, office equipment, and kitchen appliances for the center.
The training center, managed by the Service of Water Resources, will serve as an education and innovation hub to train, and retrain professionals in Integrated Water Resources Management, the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus approach, the latest innovations, crop production, and other important skills to promote more efficient water use. Building these skill sets supports food security, economic growth, and resiliency to the effects of climate change.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Murat Ramatov; USAID’s Economic Development Office Director, James Lykos; Service of Water Resources Director, Almazbek Sokeev; and the Institute and Training Center Director, Janybek Kerimaliev; participated in the opening ceremony.
“Through our partnerships with Kyrgyz communities, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and local governments, we are improving the quality of life for all Kyrgyzstanis. We believe that the upgraded training center will benefit both the agricultural and water sectors of the Kyrgyz Republic and support the economic and environmental development of the country,” said James Lykos, Director, USAID's Economic Development Office.
"At present, one of the most important tasks of the Ministry of Agriculture is to improve the capacity, qualification and education level of agricultural specialists and to upgrade their education. Based on this, a special modernized training center was opened under the regional water and environment project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). I am confident that this center will train professional and experienced specialists and contribute to further development of the agro-industrial complex of the country", said the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Murat Ramatov.
The U.S.-provided upgrades to the Training Center were made possible through the USAID Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity.
