During 23-25, 2022, nine Kyrgyz agricultural enterprises attended the UzAgroExpo-2022, one of the largest international exhibitions in Central Asia hosted in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. They met with Uzbek retail chains and dairy companies, held business-to-business meetings aimed at strengthening trade ties and building stronger links along value chains. As a result, the companies signed 17 agreements and contracts valued at more than 1 million USD. The Kyrgyz delegation’s trip was sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The delegation from Kyrgyzstan consisted of agricultural producers Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh oblasts. They presented dried and preserved fruits and vegetables, dairy products, potatoes, beverages, honey, meat and other products.
“Participation in international exhibitions promotes Kyrgyz businesses and helps us to learn about new business trends and industry best practices. Attending these exhibitions provides an excellent opportunity for the exchange of experiences and business ideas, networking and strengthening trade ties" said Nurmatov Igamberdi, a private entrepreneur in the meat industry.
UzAgroExpo-2022 is a unique platform for promotion of agricultural products and services. In 2021, the event attracted more than 4,000 agricultural enterprises from 16 countries.
“Accessing new markets is key to expanding businesses and creating jobs in Kyrgyzstan. It’s the best way that they can grow, hire more people and increase incomes for Kyrgyzstanis. That’s why USAID continues to work with entrepreneurs to help them strengthen business linkages with neighboring countries like Uzbekistan,” said Joshua Templeton, USAID’s Economic Development Office Director.
The trip was organized under USAID’s Agro Trade project which works to create jobs and increase the incomes of Kyrgyz farmers and agribusinesses by strengthening value chains, leading to increased regional and cross-border trade with Uzbekistan.
