USAID supported Burgondu agricultural cooperative in the Jalal-Abad region to obtain a Good Agricultural Practices audit certificate, an internationally recognized standard for farm production. The farm produces high-yielding hybrid varieties of peppers that are resistant to heat and drought. The average yield of these hybrid varieties is about 45 tons per hectare -- 10 tons more than the local varieties. The certification enables the farm to expand its export markets. This assistance was provided under USAID’s Enterprise Competitiveness Project.
Meeting international standards is key to enhancing the export competitiveness of Kyrgyzstan producers. Improving yields while obtaining new standards of quality, regional producers generate more revenue for investment and further development.
