Hi Everyone. Here in Madagascar, climate change is a major concern. Madagascar is among the most vulnerable and affected countries in the world. Unfortunately, one of the effects we have seen here is the rainy season has become more and more unpredictable, This has made farming more challenging and has led to recurrent drought and even food insecurity in some regions. Moreover, coastal communities are threatened by rising ocean levels and are suffering from increased damage from cyclones. USAID takes climate change very seriously. We have special projects that directly address climate change and mitigate its effects And we also build climate change considerations into everything that we do. For example, our Smart agriculture project has already trained over 1,500 farmers on how to preserve topsoil and manage the adverse effects of climate change. Other USAID projects are actively involved in reforestation, including developing community-run tree nurseries, and helping communities take the lead on local reforestation. On the coast, mangroves are one of our best defenses against rising sea water levels, coastal erosion, and storm damage. In Menabe, for example, USAID has worked with coastal communities to replant over120 hectares of mangroves. Climate change affects all of us, and we here at USAID/Madagascar are trying to be part of the solution.
