OVERVIEW

USAID’s Food System Nutrition Innovation Lab (FSN-IL) partners with the Government of Nepal (GoN), research firms, and academia to generate evidence, disseminate promising technologies and practices, and support the uptake of food system innovations to improve incomes, diet quality, resilience, and nutrition in Nepal.

HIGHLIGHT

In Nepal, USAID, through FSN-IL, assesses nutrition governance and policy readiness and identifies challenges facing food system transformation. These efforts aim to generate information, build capacity, and build awareness regarding the necessary steps for achieving food system transformation in Nepal.

USAID Food System Nutrition Innovation Lab Builds GoN capacity to generate information for decision making:

USAID provides technical assistance for research and capacity building that will translate into improved uptake and adoption of food systems innovations. Based on the gaps identified from a literature review and stakeholder consultations, FSN-IL is supporting the GON to conduct a nutrition governance and policy readiness assessment, clarifying the roles and responsibilities across the three tiers of government in relation to the implementation of Nepal’s Multi-sectoral Nutrition Plan III. FSN-IL supports the GON to conduct a scoping review of consumer demand.

Supports the GoN transform its food systems towards improved diet quality and nutrition:

USAID is facilitating a process to identify Nepal-specific food system innovation approaches, monitoring food system transformation to identify gaps in the government policy environment and track progress over time, and developing, testing, and training practitioners on the use of data for decision making for food systems transformation.
