OVERVIEW
USAID’s Global Health Security Activity - WHO, implemented in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), assists Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) to strengthen Nepal’s capacity to prevent, detect, and rapidly respond to emerging infectious disease (EID) threats using a “One Health” approach.
HIGHLIGHT
USAID’s Global Health Security Activity-WHO strengthens disease surveillance; improves national laboratory systems to detect EIDS; addresses antimicrobial resistance; and enhances health emergency management response for infectious diseases.
USAID Global Health Security Supports Nepal’s surveillance system:
USAID partners with federal, provincial, and local level governments to strengthen surveillance by: supporting Early Warning, Alert, and Response System (EWARS) sentinel sites to effectively collect and report data; building the capacity of the Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS); and supporting the formation of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) at the municipal level.
Supports Nepal’s national laboratory system:
USAID partners with national and provincial public health laboratories to support subnational laboratory quality improvement and accreditation and to strengthen the specimen referral and transport system for high threat pathogens.
Promotes a one health approach:
USAID is supporting national One Health stakeholder mapping and national One Health workshops to promote a “One Health” approach to prevent, detect, and rapidly respond to EID threats.
