OVERVIEW
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods (Sakcham)-Central promotes inclusion and economic empowerment of people with disabilities in urban and rural districts of central Nepal through mobilization of people with disabilities, training, livelihood support, and promotion of inclusive employment.
HIGHLIGHT
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods-Central establishes self-help groups for persons with disabilities. These groups support income generation; enhance employment prospects of youth with disabilities; and promote enabling legal, regulatory, and cultural environments for their full participation in economic sectors.
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods (Sakcham) - Central Promotes an enabling environment to economically empower persons with disabilities:
USAID brings together a coalition of organizations representing persons with disabilities and the National Federation of Disabled Nepal to advocate for inclusion in employment law and standards for employers and to push for the implementation of these laws, policies, and standards as well as to promote inclusive terminology and media awareness.
Supports economic independence for persons with disabilities:
USAID builds greater economic independence and resilience for people with disabilities and their caregivers by establishing 20 women-led self help groups in Thakre and Gokarneshwor municipalities. Reaching more than 360 members, USAID is advising them on setting up small enterprises for income generation and savings. To enhance the employment prospects of young adults with disabilities, USAID is facilitating more than 200 young people to access vocational training, mentorship, internships, and direct work experiences in high demand market areas. USAID is also increased supporting access to assistive devices and community based rehabilitative services through referral and coordination with other partners.
Fosters local ownership, accountability, and sustainability:
USAID works closely with the municipal Women, Children and Senior Citizens Office in target districts to ensure local government is accountable and promotes the rights of all women, including those with disabilities.
