OVERVIEW
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods (Sakcham)-West promotes the equality and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. The activity creates equal access to employment in a competitive labor market and fosters a work environment that is open, inclusive, and accessible to persons with disabilities.
HIGHLIGHT
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods-West increased the incomes of persons with disabilities by 20% in its target districts by engaging with individuals, self help groups, employers, financial institutions, education providers, and local markets to provide more opportunities for START willing and able workers.
USAID Inclusive Livelihoods - (Sakcham) West Facilitates peer-to-peer support for people with disabilities:
USAID is helping with the activation of 57 self-help groups, and connecting the groups to a variety of inclusive livelihood options, policy advocacy tools, and networking opportunities. These groups are trained to provide peer support to persons with disabilities on livelihood opportunities, to lobby local governments for inclusive employment opportunities, and to advocate for credit facilities on behalf of persons with disabilities in their communities.
Supports economic independence for persons with disabilities:
USAID provides livelihood opportunities for more than 2,600 people to ensure that persons with disabilities have skills and access to sustainable economic opportunities. USAID is enabling employability through relevant vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and access to finances, including for youth with disabilities.
Fosters local ownership and sustainability:
USAID partners with organizations of persons with disabilities to enhance their capacity in financial, administrative, and grant management. This support enables participants to implement sustainable programs independently using direct funding from donors, including USAID. Local ownership and sustainability will also be achieved through engagement with local governments and target communities
