OVERVIEW

USAID Public Financial Management strengthens inclusive democracy and prosperity in Nepal by supporting more participatory public financial management, particularly at the provincial and local levels. This activity enhances public finance and service delivery's transparency, equity, and legitimacy.

HIGHLIGHT

USAID Public Financial Management improves the Government of Nepal’s financial management and accountability at the provincial and local levels. The activity helps communities overcome public service delivery constraints in a fiscally transparent and accountable START budgeting process.

Committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility:

USAID is creating more equitable management systems, such as gender-responsive budgeting processes and tax policies. These new approaches provide more opportunities to Nepal’s women, youth, and marginalized communities. USAID is also working with local communities to increase their access to public services and representation during the budget planning.

Supports fiscal federalism:

USAID is working closely with Lumbini and Madesh provincial and local governments to strengthen fiscal federalism and help the public recognize the importance of a participatory and equitable financial planning process.

Supports and strengthens local governments:

USAID helps local governments identify their critical contingencies and emergency response funding needs in the budget planning. This allows them to dedicate the resources needed to deal with potential shocks and stressors, giving them essential tools to adapt and care for their citizens during a crisis.
