Today, Administrator Power met with James Cleverly, Minister of State for Europe and North America of the United Kingdom’s (UK) Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). The Administrator and Minister Cleverly discussed the need to further scale up the United Nations’ assistance to and engagements with the Government of Ukraine. They discussed the need for expanded global funding for development and humanitarian assistance and expressed particular concern about the impact of Putin’s war in Ukraine on global food security and nutrition, particularly in the places like Yemen and the Horn of Africa that were already experiencing dire food insecurity.
In February, USAID committed to providing up to $10 million over three years to the FCDO’s Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine to expand economic opportunities and bolster resilience in communities in eastern Ukraine. Administrator Power asked how USAID’s Ukraine Mission can coordinate with FCDO to identify future priorities for support in a post-conflict recovery environment, as well as additional opportunities for partnership as the international community works to help Ukraine recover.
