Statement by Spokesperson Jessica Jennings
On March 25, USAID hosted representatives from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for the third annual U.S.-UK Strategic Development Dialogue. Over the past three years, the U.S. and UK governments have engaged at every level to advance the USAID-FCDO partnership and align our respective interests. USAID and FCDO agreed to strengthen ongoing collaboration through humanitarian assistance efforts and discussed the importance of elevating local voices and leadership in development programming.
Led by USAID’s Assistant to the Administrator in the Bureau for Planning, Learning, and Resource Management Michele Sumilas and FCDO’s Director General for Development Melinda Bohannon, this year’s Dialogue focused on enhancing coordination within global development policy forums, including the G7, G20, United Nations, and COP29, as well as prioritizing the use of data and high-quality evidence to inform programming decisions. USAID and FCDO shared updates on the G7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI), and both shared efforts to advance Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR).
This annual Strategic Development Dialogue paves the way for continued collaboration, ensuring our nations remain responsive to the pressing global issues of the moment and institutionalizing progress for years to come.
