Today, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman announced $1.5 million in humanitarian assistance for the American Red Cross, who will work with national Red Cross Societies in the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, and Republic of the Marshall Islands to bolster disaster preparedness in countries already experiencing the impacts of the climate crisis.
Deputy Administrator Coleman made the announcement in Palau. USAID is committed to partnering with the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, and Republic of the Marshall Islands to enhance disaster readiness through prepositioning of emergency relief supplies, training and technical support, and providing life-saving assistance during major disasters. Early planning, preparedness, and coordination to address these critical areas is an important step in advancing development and Pacific Island countries’ ability to better withstand climate and disaster shocks.
