Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, Marise Payne to discuss their serious concern about the worsening humanitarian conditions and the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. They discussed programming approaches and key principles required to provide assistance in Afghanistan.
In addition, Administrator Power and Minister Payne identified the upcoming Global COVID-19 Summit and Quadrilateral Security Dialogue Leaders Summit as opportunities to strengthen cooperation around the COVID-19 response, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. The two leaders also discussed development assistance to the Indo-Pacific, especially the Pacific Islands, as well as steps to address the growing humanitarian and health crisis in Burma.
