Adam Schmidt was sworn in as Mission Director for Sudan on June 27, 2023, after serving as Acting Mission Director since April 2023. He previously served as Deputy Mission Director for Ethiopia since August 2021.
Mr. Schmidt previously worked with USAID missions in Georgia, El Salvador, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. In these diverse contexts, he developed programming and led teams in the democracy and governance and humanitarian assistance areas.
Before joining USAID in 2010, Mr. Schmidt worked for international and non-governmental organizations in the management of good governance activities in Indonesia, Egypt, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kosovo.
Mr. Schmidt received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Emory University and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Florida. He is a resident of New London, Connecticut, and is married with three children.
