Erin Nicholson is USAID/Indonesia’s Deputy Mission Director. She most recently served as the Office Director for East Asian and the Pacific (EAP) Affairs in USAID/Washington (2020-2022), overseeing a broad portfolio spanning the Mekong, to ASEAN, to the Pacific Islands.
Erin started her career at USAID as a Presidential Management Intern assigned to the Caucasus Desk, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia (2000-2002). She joined the Foreign Service as a Private Enterprise Officer serving in the Central Asia Republics (2005-2007), Afghanistan (2008-2010) and Southern Africa Regional Mission (2011-2013). She joined USAID’s senior management ranks as the Deputy Mission Director to Mali (2014-2016), Senior Advisor in the Bureau for Food Security (2016-2017) and Acting Deputy Executive Director of USAID’s Global Development Lab (2018-2020).
Erin holds a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Oregon; an M.A. in International Development Economics from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University; and an M.S. in National Resource Policy from National Defense University’s Eisenhower School. Erin tenured in Russian and also speaks French. She grew up in eastern Oregon and is originally from southern California.
