Sara Borodin joined the Bureau for Asia in September 2023 as the Deputy Assistant Administrator for East Asia and the Pacific. Previously, she also served as the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia with a portfolio that included oversight of USAID’s programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Prior to joining the Bureau for Asia, Ms. Borodin served in the Bureau for the Middle East as the Office Director and Deputy Director for the Office of Middle East Affairs, where she oversaw an average annual budget of over $1 billion worth of assistance across USAID’s operations in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and West Bank/Gaza.

Ms. Borodin joined USAID in 2001 as Presidential Management Fellow and served on the West Bank/Gaza and Morocco Desks in the Middle East Bureau. She also served as Acting Director for the Office of Democracy & Governance in USAID/Egypt.

Prior to joining USAID, Ms. Borodin served as a Program Coordinator for a Middle East think tank in Washington D.C. and as a Research Assistant at the U.S. Institute of Peace. She also worked as a Program Developer for a non-profit organization in Israel.

Ms. Borodin received her Masters Degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University in Washington, DC. Ms. Borodin has a Joint Honors Bachelor Degree in Middle East Studies and Religious Studies from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
