Sara Werth began her tour as the USAID Mission Director to the Kyrgyz Republic in August 2024. Prior to this post, she served as USAID’s Deputy Mission Director in Nigeria (2022-2024) where she oversaw a portfolio spanning health, humanitarian assistance, economic growth, education and democracy and governance. She previously served USAID tours in the Libya External Office located in Tunis, Tunisia (2018-2021), Tegucigalpa, Honduras (2015-2018), the Democracy, Human Rights and Governance Center in Washington, DC (2013-2015), Guatemala City, Guatemala (2010-2013), Bogota, Colombia (2008-2010) and Bangladesh (2006-2008). Prior to joining USAID in 2006, Ms. Werth worked for non-governmental organizations in Bangladesh and Washington, DC and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lithuania (1997-1999).

Sara Werth holds an MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (2002) and an MS in National Security Strategy from the National War College at the National Defense University (2022) in Washington, DC. She hails from Cleveland, Ohio.
