Dar es Salaam – September 12, 2024 -
This partnership has grown organically from an initial exchange in 2022, when Tanzanian senior officials visited India through a U.S.-facilitated program. Since then, the USAID missions in Tanzania and India have worked closely to deepen the relationship between the Tanzanian and Indian governments to share expertise and strengthen their energy sectors. This took the TriDeP relationship one step forward with the formal announcement in July 2024 of the Triangular Cooperation on Clean and Renewable Energy.
“I am honored to see our Tanzanian partners embark on this visit to India. Their participation in this capacity-building, exchange program marks a significant step forward towards reinforcing Tanzania's energy infrastructure and advancing renewable energy initiatives,” said U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania Michael C. Battle. “Developing this partnership with India and Tanzania exemplifies the U.S. government's commitment to developing longstanding global partnerships, including those that drive sustainable development and energy security.”
During the intensive capacity-building program from September 14 to 28, the Tanzanian delegates will interact with Indian technical experts and observe cutting-edge practices. The program will provide the delegates a comprehensive understanding of India's power system and its operations, including its policy and regulatory frameworks, renewable energy integration, interconnections with its neighboring countries, grid standards, communication, and analytics.
"I'm glad that a Tanzanian delegation will visit Grid Controller of India Limited for two weeks of capacity-building training. This visit highlights India and Tanzania's strong bilateral relations and commitment to sharing experiences and capabilities,” said India High Commissioner Bishwadip Dey. “As members of the ISA, Tanzania and India have collaborated on promoting renewable energy. I believe the collaboration under TriDeP will strengthen our partnership, driving significant growth in Tanzania’s renewable energy sector. My best wishes to the Tanzanian team for productive training and gratitude to the United States for their partnership in this initiative."
This TriDep partnership will enable a stronger and more resilient energy grid in Tanzania. It focuses on improving policy frameworks, building reliable regional interconnections, and developing large-scale solar projects to bring clean and reliable energy for Tanzanian communities.
“We hope that the deliberations that will take place in India over the next two weeks will yield actionable results that support the Government of Tanzania efforts to accelerate deployment of renewable energy (RE) in the country and support its low carbon growth,” said, Deputy Permanent Secretary (for Electricity and Renewable Energy), Dr. Khatibu Malimi Kazungu.
