Accreditation plays a vital role in the reform of medical education by setting clear standards and benchmarks for educational institutions. Therefore, USAID is helping Vietnamese medical universities establish a strong accreditation system that aligns with global standards. On July 24-25, 60 representatives from leading medical universities, including Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Training, and international medical education agencies, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical School, gathered at a USAID-supported workshop in Hanoi to discuss ways to implement the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education in Vietnam.
By focusing on continuous quality assurance and aligning with a globally recognized accreditation body, Vietnam’s medical universities can enhance their global competitiveness, attract international collaborations, and ultimately improve patient care outcomes to meet 21st century health care needs and challenges.
