CBBC is an approach for biodiversity conservation that empowers local forest dwelling communities to become guardians of forests and biodiversity while reducing conservation costs. On November 30, 2021, the USAID Biodiversity Conservation project held a national workshop involving 200 participants from 26 national parks and nature reserves to review and discuss lessons learned of current CBBC practices in five special use forests. The workshop specifically discussed approaches to community patrolling of protected areas.
The workshop participants learned key lessons drawn from current CBBC practices and are now able to better support local communities and indigenous populations to apply these in their national parks.
