Vietnam has issued numerous official decisions and decrees to advance its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Among them, the requirement that large greenhouse gas emitting industries and entities must report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and prepare GHG reduction plans beginning in 2023. On December 8, USAID, through its Vietnam Urban Energy Security project, provided a training on monitoring and reporting GHG emissions for four large companies in Ho Chi Minh City’s waste management industry. The 30 participants learned how to establish greenhouse gas inventories, develop monitoring, reporting and verification systems, and discussed the principles of carbon accounting and the carbon market.
Accurate monitoring and reporting of industry GHG emissions is crucial to the Government of Vietnam being able to transparently track its progress toward its net-zero emissions targets and prepare for the establishment of the domestic carbon market.
