Representatives from the U.S. State Department, U.S. Embassy Hanoi and USAID/Vietnam met with the Vietnamese Department of Social Vices Prevention, under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, to discuss collaborative efforts to combat trafficking in persons in Vietnam. During the meeting, Dr. Kari Johnstone, Principal Deputy Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, and USAID Mission Director Aler Grubbs, emphasized the strength of the U.S.-Vietnam partnership to improve identification and support for victims of human trafficking.
This supports USAID’s collaboration with Vietnam to improve legal frameworks to protect and support victims of trafficking, enhance knowledge and skills for frontline workers and officials at the national and local levels, and pilot a screening toolkit to improve detection, referral, and support for victims of trafficking.
