On June 21, 2024, the IUCN announced that it had added Vietnam’s Cat Tien National Park to its Green List, which recognizes protected areas around the globe that actively contribute to safeguarding and sustaining the world's biodiversity. USAID/Vietnam supported Cat Tien National Park in meeting the Green List’s 17 required criteria, including in improved biodiversity conservation management, design, planning, and governance processes.
Cat Tien National Park is the second national park in Vietnam, after Van Long Nature Reserve in Ninh Binh province, to receive this prestigious designation. For over a decade, USAID has helped Vietnam protect its globally significant biodiversity by combating illegal hunting, protecting habitats for endangered species, and mobilizing domestic resources for forest conservation.
